SHOULD I GO FOR A RESTORATION OR JUST BUY A NEW FLOOR?
In many cases, even the most neglected and grimiest wood floors can be resurrected by sanding and finishing, and for considerably less than the price of a new floor too! When we carry out your free on-site consultation we’ll give you an honest appraisal of the situation and what we believe can be done with your existing floor.
WHAT DOES A RESTORATION INVOLVE?
A full restoration is made up of a number of stages. First, our experts will repair and replace any floor boards as necessary. Then they’ll sand away the surface layer of the floor using state-of-the-art equipment, revealing the good wood underneath. This will then be finished according to your preference.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RENOVATION AND RESTORATION?
A wood floor renovation is suitable for floors that have simply dulled but still have plenty of life left in them, and involves resealing the floor. Restoration is suitable for floors that have been neglected far longer, and is much more comprehensive. A restoration can literally be ‘from the ground up’ as we also look at the sub-floor structure to make sure its integrity hasn’t been compromised.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SANDING FLOORS FOR?
The Surrey Floor Resurfacing company GU1 has been in operation for nearly 20 years, and we continue to base our business around our passion for wooden floors.
CAN’T I DO IT MYSELF?
Floor sanding and restoration really are best left to the professionals. Though experienced DIY-ers may be able to attempt it themselves, this may fall some way short of the results we can achieve. In addition to our many years of experience, we use state-of-the-art sanding equipment.
WHAT CREDENTIALS DO YOU HAVE?
We are Members of the National Wood Flooring Association, the Guild of Master Craftsmen and the Federation of Small Businesses. We are also Junckers Approved Maintenance Contractors.
DO YOU OFFER A NO-OBLIGATION QUOTE?
We do. Following your initial enquiry we’ll come to your home or Surrey-based business premises and carry out an onsite consultation for free. After we’ve assessed the floor and discussed your options we’ll provide you with a quote with no further obligation.
WHO WILL CARRY OUT THE WORK?
One of our managers will come to your property to carry out the initial consultation and assessment. There’s no hard sell, and you’re free to choose whatever service you want. Once you’ve given us the green light, our Surrey-based team of highly experienced and fully trained sanding and finishing experts will get to work.
I BET THERE’S LOST OF MESS, THOUGH, RIGHT?
You may be surprised to hear that the answer is no. While out-dated drum sanders are known to create a lot of dust, the continuous belt machinery we use produces hardly any at all. Dust is further reduced by our mobile extraction units which follow the machines around during the sanding process. We’ll also do a thorough tidy up before we leave.
THERE ARE GAPS IN MY FLOOR, CAN YOU DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?
We can easily fill in any gaps using a mixture of resin, silicon and slivers. Doing so will not only improve the appearance of your floor, it can also help to increase thermal efficiency.
CAN I SEE SOME EXAMPLES OF YOUR PREVIOUS WORK?
A variety of examples of our completed Surrey projects can be seen in our Gallery . You can also read what our customers think about our services on the Testimonials page.
WHAT FLOOR FINISHES DO YOU OFFER?
We offer a wide range of finishes to suit all floors and preferences, including wood staining, varnishing, waxing and oiling. All our finishing products are environmentally friendly and allergen-free.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD A WOODEN FLOOR BE BUFFED AND POLISHED?
We recommend that floors in offices and other busy commercial settings are buffed and polished annually. For homeowners, once every two years should be sufficient.
